Yoga Fosters Spiritual Growth…

The regular practice of yoga, particularly when a practitioner approaches their practice with the intention of self-examination and betterment (not perfection!), often puts practitioners in touch with a different side of themselves. Among the spiritual aspects that yoga fosters are feelings of gratitude, empathy, forgiveness, and the sense that you’re part of something bigger than yourself. While better health is not the goal of spirituality, numerous scientific studies have documented it has this effect. From a yogic perspective, suffering, or duhkha, is different from pain. Pain can’t always be avoided, but how much you suffer as a result depends on your state of mind. Thoughts and emotional reactions to painful experiences, yoga teaches, can fuel the fire of discontent and undermine healing.
